AN OWNERS EXPERIENCE

with Pat Stellini

BuyaRacehorse- Good morning Pat, first off thanks for joining me.

Tell me mate, how long have you had a love for racing and what got you into the sport?

Pat S- I’ve always had a passion for racing, but was heavily involved in Harness racing through my father who trained and drove his own horses. Before getting involved in Thoroughbreds in 2014.

BuyaRacehorse- Born and bred! I like it, how long have you been involved in ownership, and can you remember your first horse/winner?

Pat S- I have been involved in ownership since 2014. My first horse was Boogiedayz with Dream Thoroughbreds, she was also my first winner as an owner on May 3rd 2015 at Geelong!

BuyaRacehorse- I’m guessing you have been hooked ever since that first win! How did you get involved with Dream Thoroughbreds?

Pat S- I was chatting to a friend I work with who had horses with Dream Thoroughbreds and I said I would love to buy a share in a horse. Dream generously donated a 2.5% share in a horse at a fundraiser we had at work one year for a seriously ill colleague. Three work mates and myself put some money together and bought the share.

BuyaRacehorse- Sounds like a great way to get involved with a group of good mates! What are some of the positives in being an owner with Dream Thoroughbreds?

Pat S- They supply consistent feedback on all their horses with communication thru emails and whattsapp groups. We also get 2 x members tickets on race day, which is always a fun family like environment. They also often run events held thru out the year like a spring launch, stable visits, Melbourne cup day marquee, etc, etc.

BuyaRacehorse-Sounds like they go above and beyond for their owners, offering the full ownership experience and more!

What have been some of the highlights on the race track throughout the years as an owner with Dream Thoroughbreds?

Pat S- Owning a share in Mr Sneaky has been an absolute thrill! He has won 5 races and ran in 6 Group 1 races, including the day he came so close when finishing second in the 2017 Sir Rupert Clarke stakes.

Then came his 3 quarter brother Mr So and So, who we only had a short time. He won one race and placed in a Stakes race as well as running in the Australian Guineas. We then received a lucrative offer from Hong Kong and he was sold, where we still follow him to this day.

With the proceeds from the sale, I started to look at a number of yearlings Dream had on offer. Finally picking the well-bred I Am Invincible colt I Am Immortal. There were big wraps on this horse after he had 2 impressive Jump outs.

He had his first start on Saturday 26th of Jan in the Blue Diamond Preview,to say I was “pretty nervous” would be an understatement! However he lived up to his trial form, jumped straight to the front and was never headed.

BuyaRacehorse–Sounds like you have had one hell of a ride! That feeling on Saturday must have been second to none, a well bred Colt being such a dominant winner at his first start at city grade!

Pat S- It sure was and to be able to share it with my wife and son was extra special, some of the owners from Mr Sneaky and Mr So And So have bought shares in him also so it had that real family vibe about it, we have all become really close friends over the years.

I think I was still shaking half an hour after the race! It was Dreams first stakes winner. To be a part of that and share it with Dave, Shanyn and Tony made it that extra bit special, they have made my family and I feel so welcome from day one.

BuyaRacehorse- You sound like you are still on cloud nine…. And we don’t blame you! What’s next now for the son of I Am Invincible, is he nominated for all the major 2 year old races?

PS- We will now head to the Blue Diamond Prelude in 2 weeks then all going well 2 weeks later the Group I Blue Diamond Stakes!

BuyaRacehorse- Well Pat we must say, you are well and truly “Living The Dream”! All the best with I am Immortal and all your future prospects as a race horse owner!
